Food outlets flagged by FDA need to be named

The Food and Drugs Administration is providing yeoman service by regularly conducting inspections of various food outlets across Goa. It may be recalled that a restaurant in Calangute was sealed as raw chicken was being washed on the toilet floor using a toilet faucet. A restaurant in Vasco was sealed after it was found by the FDA officials that food was being stored under unhygienic conditions. A bakery in Margao was ordered to shut down after an inspection found glaring discrepancies and deficiencies. The FDA personnel on Tuesday conducted raids at several food establishments in Quepem and seized several kilograms of mava and shut down one unit for violating hygiene standards. In several cases the food outlets that have been flagged for carrying out unhygienic practices are not named by the authorities concerned.  It would be in the fitness of things for the public to know the food outlets which have been cautioned and even shut down. This will help citizens keep a close watch on such food joints which in turn will act as a deterrent for the owner to carry out unhygienic practices.
