It has become a regular phenomenon of Margao Municipal Council not to pick up residential garbage on a regular basis which leads to
foul smell emanating in the premises and can be a source of spreading diseases.
The situation has worsened in the last three days in several apartments where garbage has not been collected. Residents usually keep their segregated bins either on the staircase or in front of the building gates where the garbage collectors come and clear it.
The area has been stinking with cats and stray dogs feasting on leftovers and littering the place.
The contractor of the sanitary department of MMC expressed his regret citing non-availability of pick-up trucks. The Chief Officer’s landline number as usual rings to glory with none attending to calls.
The minister looking after waste management should step in and prevail on the MMC to clear the residential garbage on a daily basis to ensure that proper hygiene is maintained especially during the monsoon season.
