This is with reference to joint inspection of Colva, Sernabatim beaches by the Pollution Control Board under directions of the High Court.
Two notable observations emerge from this.
Firstly, a significant number of locals are implicated in various illicit activities, compounded by outsiders who, despite being aware of these transgressions, engage in similar behaviour or exacerbate existing issues. Thus, rather than solely scrutinizing non-locals, we as Goans must ensure our own adherence to the law.
Secondly, regulatory bodies such as the Panchayat and Tourism Department often grant permissions without adequate oversight, prioritising financial gains without due diligence to prevent violations. It is imperative that these authorities be held accountable for permitting such flagrant disregard for regulations in the Coastal Belt.
While the inspection needs to be appreciated we only hope good and positive changes come about from this.
