This is with reference to the report, "Tiger, tiger 'burning bright' - The Goan Everyday July 25, 2023." That is certainly great news, the High Court directing the state government to declare Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve. The 'Court's Quote' in this regard is very appropriate: "If there is no forest, then the tiger gets killed; if there is no tiger then the forest gets destroyed; Hence the tiger protects the forest and the forest guards the tiger". I think the message is very clear and one hopes authorities across the country would take a cue from this judgement and initiate measures to protect all forests in their respective states. The authorities in Mumbai need to understand that Aarey is also a forest and it should remain a forest. The leopards are not tourists in Aarey, it is their habitat. It is we humans who are tourists but are treading onto wildlife territory and trying to displace the wild. Let man and beast live peacefully in their respective regions 'without stepping onto each other's toes'.
