No point in shutting liquor shops during elections


The government has recently issued an order that all restaurants, bars, tea shops, pan shops, eateries etc situated in jurisdiction of municipal council areas, CCP will remain closed on voting day and the counting of votes thereafter. 

This is the practice during all elections in the country, whether they are municipal elections, Assembly or general elections, liquor stores are the first casualty.

I fail to understand the connection or the logic of the EC. Needless to say, the authorities need to review their policies. 

There are many who love their drinks and want them every day in order to overcome life's burdens. 

So, they will anyway have it stocked at their homes. George Bernard Shaw says, "Alcohol is the anaesthesia by which we endure the operation of life."
