Patchwork as deadly as potholed roads

The deadline given by the Chief Minister to all PWD road contractors to remove all potholes from the roads across Goa has come to an end. The PWD officials have reportedly claimed that all potholes have been repaired. It is pertinent to note that over the last few weeks, patchwork has been done on the roads which must be considered as temporary measure. The government had blamed the heavy rainfall and shortage of resources for the delay in completing road related works in the State. It must be said that roads with patchwork are as dangerous, if not more, than roads with potholes. Patchwork leads to unevenness of the road level. As time goes by this patchwork will give way and the loose gravel and stones will be strewn all over the place which can lead to slippery conditions. What is necessary is complete hot-mixing of the road which has potholes. Now that the South West monsoon has receded and the weather is bright and sunny, the government needs to hot mix all the roads which have undergone the patchwork which is a stop-gap arrangement.
