The work carried out for the Panaji Smart City project seems to have been exposed after part of the Panaji-Ribandar road caved in. This is enough to again expose the poor infrastructure of roads. The cave-ins or cavities or sink holes that look like a hole in the ground are actually caused after incessant rain. These sink holes are the result of poor quality of roads. Miffed over the poor infrastructure, Panaji residents and riders have taken to demanding accountability from the public officials. Moreover the problems of crumbling infrastructure of the city and poor roads were out in the open for everyone to see after the heavy monsoonal rains. While crores have been spent on revamping these roads, the complaint of haphazardly laid roads in the internal parts of the city is still unresolved. It’s a kind of open robbery where taxpayers’ money has been wasted on sub-standard and compromised quality of work thereby endangering the lives of citizens, especially two-wheeler riders. People should start planting saplings in the potholes and caved in roads to register their protest against the bad roads in Panaji. This move is needed to wake up the authorities to the problem.
