Rise in accidents involving rental cars

A youth from Maharashtra, driving a rental car, hit a scooter in Siolim on Wednesday, injuring a mother and her son. Accidents caused by rash and negligent driving by rental car users are increasing in Goa. While rental car services are provided for tourists, many misuse them by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Rental car owners should avoid giving vehicles to young individuals and instead prioritise families, as family members in the car encourage safer driving.

Many young people, unfamiliar with Goa’s roads, drive at high speeds, increasing accident risks. Rental car owners should introduce legal formalities, such as affidavits, to ensure responsible use and protect lives.

Stricter rules should be enforced for rental car users, warning them against reckless driving. Speed regulations must be implemented to reduce frequent accidents. Tourists should not take Goans for granted, and the government must take strict action against those who violate traffic laws.

It defiles the sanctity of the church besides being illegal, an eyesore, and a hazard. Construction near the St Aloysius School nearby has generated this humongous waste; the authorities should also investigate and penalise the parties responsible.
