It is learnt that a 28-year-old resident of Sao Joao de Area succumbed to his injuries after he fell off his two-wheeler while negotiating rumbler strips at Panzorconi in Cuncolim. It may be recalled that a few months back three major accidents occurred at the site of the rumbler strips at Dandeavaddo in Chinchinim killing one person. Rumbler strips are grooves or indents on roads that are used to provide the driver with a tactile and audible warning. These strips are usually placed ahead of merging lanes or road shoulders in order to warn drivers. As a matter of fact rumbler strips need to be installed along the edge line or centre line of the road in order to alert drivers when they drift from their lane safety. Often this alert is strong enough to get the attention of a distracted or drowsy driver. However when a vehicle moves at high speed over these strips the vehicle can veer off the road and a two-wheeler rider can lose balance leading to accidents. Rumbler strips need to be put up as per specifications.
