Second Covid wave a serious concern

The second wave of Coronavirus infections that is sweeping the country is of deep concern.

The number of daily new infections is not only surging but is also doing so at a faster pace than during the first wave. Public laxity on masks and social distancing coupled with pandemic fatigue and poor implementation of containment measures is fuelling the second wave.

Scientists say that these variants infect human systems more easily and also re-infect people. The surge in the current wave is faster too.

India registered over a lakh cases over a 24-hour period to return to the top slot in the world with regard to daily infections.

The situation in around 11 States, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, is grim. Report says that nearly some 600 children under the age of 12 were infected in Bengaluru.

That children are also getting increasingly prone to infections is evident from the fact that daily infections among them are rising.

The government must strictly enforce mask and social distancing.  Public gatherings whether at the cinema halls, mosques, schools, colleges, working places, election rallies, markets or in playfields, should be restricted.
