Innocent Goan families (including local youngsters) of late are seen losing their lives and dying in some tragic road accidents in different parts of Goa.
And the root cause for this problem is not just bad roads or non-functioning of traffic signals/street lights but because of the free availability of cheap unlimited 'daru' or booze every few metres throughout the State.
Today, if one goes on a long drive, then one will practically find hundreds of bars and liquor outlets every few metres not just in cities but even in some of the most remote villages of Goa. Now, under such circumstances, why will Goans not drink and go to die in road accidents in different parts of Goa?
The worst part is that the cops from the traffic cell are never seen stopping/ taking drunk two/four wheeler vehicle drivers to task but are seen extorting money of only all the soft targets under some pretext or the other.
I feel that the government instead of going soft on all the drunk two/four wheeler vehicle drivers should henceforth try to put some strict restrictions on the sale of liquor, cut down the number of bars/ liquor outlets, give harsh punishment to those indulging in drunken driving and then dream of really saving the precious lives of all from major roads accidents.
