Task Force must also keep watch on malaria

The Covid Task Force announced by the government is now concentrating on lapses that have resulted in the present unimagined crisis.

However, they need to also concentrate on other issues too.

The cyclonic rains have thrown up ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed. The last thing doctors will want now is a spurt in malaria cases.

The fever associated with malaria is also present in Covid cases. Hence, immediate action to stem the growth of mosquitoes must be taken on a war footing. The same cannot be left to lower rung officials to implement.

The present approach to treatment/diagnosis of Covid patients must be modified to avoid mistaking malaria for Covid. The treatment too must be now changed to include possibility of malaria, or of both.

Too much of secondary antibiotics have resulted in complications like, maybe, black fungus. Detailed systems of approach must be considered now.
