In Kerala, the health department has come out with another initiative to control the spread of the Covid pandemic. The government has started an awareness campaign asking vendors, hawkers, merchants, shopkeepers and sellers in the market areas to avoid bargaining of prices with customers. Prices are displayed near the products and these are fixed by the authority concerned. This avoids unnecessary bargaining. Contact with infected people is one of the main causes of the spread of the pandemic. The state health department was successful in containing the pandemic to an extent by putting an end to bargaining in some of the coastal fishing hamlets where vendors and people haggle over rates. This “silent” business mode has been welcomed by both sellers and buyers and is now fast spreading.
