Megalomaniacs cannot be appeased. The only thing that works with them is the language of total surrender. It does not matter how many times you have genuflected on trembling knees, stood long hours in attendance as a lowly courtier who saw a halo where there was a huge black hole of stupidity, sung hosannas to their many-splendoured idiocies, or made peace offerings in timely instalments to curry favour.
Not even a doctorate in abject servility can save you from the ill-tempered moodiness that accompanies fragile egos. One misstep, and you will be cast aside like a stinking nappy that has no further use for their lordly intellects.
The forced resignation of the holder of one of the highest constitutional posts, perhaps the ultimate sycophant, is strong evidence of the same. It's just what megalomaniacs do when they take a break from assaulting other institutions of the State.
