Power Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar, while replying to questions posed by the Opposition parties in the ongoing State Assembly session, has stated that the number of power outages witnessed in the State ” to the tune of over 19,000 in 17 months (which is around 40 power outages a day) ” was largely due to grid failure, snapping of conductors, underground cable faults, tripping of power transformers, etc.
This is a serious matter, with excuses that we hear time and again, and therefore calls for urgent and drastic action for failure and negligence of the maintenance staff in carrying out day-to-day maintenance works on the system ” which has entailed an expenditure of crores of rupees on upgrading infrastructure.
Secondly, several consumer complaints about billing and other grievances have been left unattended and are on the rise. All this is unacceptable and therefore calls for a complete overhaul of the department, with proper supervision and accountability, and service that will keep the people of Goa happy with uninterrupted power 24x7.
