Christmas 2025 was marked by bright decorations and colourful laser lights across many Christian homes in Goa. Compared to previous years, the celebrations were more vibrant and eye-catching. Carols like Feliz Natal were heard in almost every street, with people singing, playing guitars and beating drums to welcome the season. Many families went a step further by putting up stunning light displays, making their homes glow through the night. It was a joyful way of welcoming the birth of Jesus. Homes were filled with the smell of festive cooking, as families prepared special dishes with great care to serve guests.
This time of the year brings people closer, filling them with love, sharing and togetherness. Church bells rang after Masses, while weddings, dances and other events added to the festive mood as Goa prepared to welcome the New Year.
Tourists thronged the streets, churches and dance halls to join in the celebrations. The Goa government should highlight festivals like Christmas, New Year and the Feast of St Francis Xavier in tourism brochures to attract more visitors, especially as the pleasant winter climate adds to Goa’s appeal. The huge Christmas tree put up at the Margao municipal square by non-Christians shows the harmony among communities. Such celebrations also boost the local economy during this festive season.
