Benaulim was once considered the queen of the coastal villages, but over the past four years it has been in a state of utter neglect. There are bad beach roads, garbage everywhere, drains blocked by fallen trees, jumbled cables all over the place, open electrical junction boxes increasing the risk of electrocution, exposed streetlight controls, feral dogs on every street, and stray cattle – and the list goes on.
It appears that the panchayat and government authorities have abdicated all responsibility, leaving the village to run ‘Ram Bharose’. The government should take active measures to restore this once charming hamlet to its former glory.
