As per new AERAI order which has approved ad-hoc aeronautical charges tariff that includes user and development fees which says that the older airports in the country had to be shut down to make the new ones more viable. In keeping up with this order it is advantage Mopa and disadvantage Dabolim. The sheer fact that two airports had to work and operate side-by-side is hopelessly untenable. It is highly unlikely that both airports can be serviced side-by-side despite assurances given by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other MLAs.
Very large industrial estates like Verna with numerous industries and also others at Sancoale and Cuncolim estates were developed and came into being because of their closeness to the Dabolim airport. The south is more densely populated as compared to the north, a good 200km has to be traversed by road to reach Mopa to board flights and to travel back home for people living in the south. Many of the starred hotels in the south would be affected by Mopa being a distance away. It is of paramount importance that Dabolim airport stays in place for the benefit of all.
