The tough rules imposed by the government after the surge in Covid-19 cases in the second wave has left several people, who had migrated to different States, unemployed, forcing them to work under MGNREGS.
The Covid-19 crisis has made many graduates and postgraduates jobless. The situation is getting from bad to worse and shocking also, as several PhD holders are enrolling for work under the MGNREGS in Hanagal taluk in Karnataka to make ends meet.
It's also reported that many with MSc, MA, MCom, BA, BCom, BEd degrees and PhDs have been working as labourers under this scheme for a week.
These degree holders say they don’t have any inferiority complex and are involved in physical works like desilting of tanks, afforestation efforts, developing private land etc.
We can see that there is something messy in our education system. Even in past it had been reported that many PhD & MBA holders had applied for peon jobs in UP and Rajasthan.
India should be in a position to utilize these degree holders where their skills would benefit the country. Hum do hamare do type approach for job creation in an emerging economy like India is too simplistic & idealistic.
The overall employment scenario in India is really disturbing and the crisis has been aggravated by the pandemic with many people losing their jobs. Companies have also closed and private sector has freezed recruitment.
