The first week of September saw two unprecedented incidents both related to criminal acts. One involving the horrible heartbreaking daylight murder of 41-year Swapnil Walke, who valiantly fought the four criminals in spite of being fatally shot and brutally stabbed by the intruders. However he had to give up his brave fight unfortunately failing to receive any help from anyone around and succumb due to the mortal injuries.
The next equally shocking incident was the unexpected acquittal of four criminals by the HC, who were earlier tried and convicted by a lower court and were awarded life sentences in September 2019 for murdering their victim. However the High Court found that the supporting evidence provided by the police and the argument presented by prosecution were not sufficient and convincing enough to uphold the sentence and to add it more misery two witnesses turned hostile.
The above facts could also raise further doubts and well founded skepticism in the minds of people whether the murder of Swapnil will meet the same fate if the police botches up this case too in failing to collect all the necessary evidences that will make the case water-tight and withstand the full scrutiny of the courts and above all ensuring that no witnesses turning hostile.
Lastly, a quick and well deserved severe punishment will reinforce our strong faith in the efficiency of the police force and expertise of the public procecutor.
