The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was started (despite of having no filmi culture here unlike the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore) in our state by the late Manohar Parrikar in 2004 in the name of bringing long term development and with the promise of giving guaranteed benefits for all the upcoming Goan film makers, musicians/artisans through this festival in Goa. Unfortunately, nothing of that sort seem to have really happened (at least on the ground) so far and we Goans are still where we are right from 2004 till date. Forget other parts of Goa, the city of Panjim itself practically turns into a chaotic city, especially in the evenings with traffic congestion on account of IFFI every year and with that extra pile up of tonnes of garbage generated through this festival.
The worse part is that the organisers of IFFI are still seen deliberately ignoring the efforts of our Goan Konkani film makers and giving too much of attention only for all the Bollywood/South Indian Film makers/ actors during this annual week-long festival in Goa. I think that this festival has only helped a few South-Indian/ Bollywood actors/directors/producers to come on a holiday every year and enjoy to the fullest at our tax payers money in Goa. It has also helped some politicians from our respective ruling governments to make quick buck.
