PM Narendra Modi attended a Christmas service in a New Delhi church. This is the first time he has done so, against a backdrop of rising hate against Christians and symbols associated with them. The acceptance of democracy as a way of life implies that we accept that we hold certain rights to be inalienable. The Constitution of India therefore guarantees justice, liberty and equality. The rights emanating from these are considered fundamental to our being a free and democratic society. These fundamental rights, therefore, are inviolable and it is more than high time that these two-bit goondas realised this. Or maybe this government will rename ‘hate’ as ‘love’, problem solved. But remember, karma has a way of biting back in ways that are very painful.
