The recent derogatory remarks by Gautam Khattar against St Francis Xavier have deeply hurt the sentiments of Goans and cannot be taken lightly. This is an age-old debate on whether the body of the saint has decayed or not.
Sceptics over the centuries have tried, without success, to discredit what believers hold as a cornerstone of their faith. The saint’s body, preserved for over five centuries, continues to stand as a testament to that belief.
Thakkar seems to be a habitual offender and should attract a permanent ban from entering Goa. However what is amusing, to say the least, is that despite two MLAs and a minister being present on the stage, they were merely docile, mute spectators who watched the proceedings unfold, much to the shock of the whole State. Countless speakers have voiced their concern to prevent further deterioration of our spiritual beliefs in the State. Many people of other religions have also voiced their condemnation and have aligned support in this effort through the saint.
After relentless efforts by all groups, and minimal opposition, the culprit, who was on the run, was finally nabbed. Kudos to Goans for this display of unity in bringing this offender to justice. The long arm of the law is never too short to serve justice to those who deserve it.
