Fake social media narratives threaten communal harmony

Members belonging to some right-wing organisations, taking advantage of the ongoing Gautam Khattar issue across the State, have now registered a case against two individuals at the Mapusa Police Station for allegedly posting obscene and derogatory content about Hindu deities on social media with the sole intention of instigating our Hindu brothers by tarnishing the name of the entire Christian community in Goa.
Well, the complainants have no right to equate the comments on social media with the remarks made by Gautam Khattar against St Francis Xavier and try to fish in troubled waters. No true-blooded Goan would ever post such derogatory content on social media and hurt the religious sentiments of others, as Goans believe in living peacefully with each other in communal harmony.
Today, one can see not Goans but hate-mongers from IT cells (connected with non-Goan right-wing organisations) frequently posting filthy comments against other people’s gods and religions (especially Goan Catholics) on social media using fake IDs, instigating others and then playing the victim card to disturb communal harmony in Goa.
The police should therefore take serious note of these instances, conduct a thorough investigation without bias, and bring out the truth, rather than allowing habitual anti-minority bashers and non-Goan hate-mongers to play their usual dirty games on religion. Hope better sense prevails.

The saint’s body, preserved for over five centuries, continues to stand as a testament to that belief.Thakkar seems to be a…
