Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) is rightly called the lifeline of Goa, serving people across the state, including remote villages, without focusing on profit or loss. However, many of its buses are in poor condition due to neglect and lack of proper maintenance. Cleanliness inside the buses is also ignored, raising concerns for public safety.
Unlike most private operators, KTC issues proper tickets, but the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has failed to act against unsafe buses—both private and government-owned—that continue to ply Goan roads. Many of these vehicles are old and unfit for use, yet are passed by the RTO instead of being scrapped. This negligence puts lives at risk.
Although Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Transport Department frequently speak about scrapping old vehicles and modernizing bus stands, little progress has been made. The launch of new KTC buses is welcome, but drivers must also exercise discipline and avoid overspeeding.
KTC has consistently provided reliable services and punctual shuttle trips, even operating at a loss, with government support during difficult times. If private operators cannot ensure safe, timely services, the government should expand KTC operations across Goa to meet the genuine needs of its citizens.
