The road works are being undertaken at a hectic pace along the Panaji-Margao highway, and it appears that this monsoon too, like the previous one, will take a toll on motorists, especially those regularly taking that route. While successive deadlines of inaugurating the Zuari bridge has been missed, one is left wondering why works have been delayed beyond expectations. There has been no answers on why the bridge and road works have not been completed. Moreover, a major portion of the Agasaim bypass is still not illuminated forcing motorists to grope in the dark. While the traffic congestion at the approach roads of the old Zuari bridge has eased off, the worries are far from over. The bigger fear is rash driving. A couple of days back a Vasco resident died on the spot in an accident with the car being reduced to a mangled mess of metal. It is necessary that police are posted at strategic places to monitor and discipline traffic.
