It is shocking to note that on Goa’s 60th Liberation Day hundreds of policemen posted on duty all along the VVIP route went thirsty and without food. Ironically Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the year-long celebrations. The policemen have been on 12 hours bandobast duty for the last three days. However, it is learned that these policemen were not provided with either bottles of water or food. The police personnel on duty also faced sanitation issues as no mobile toilets were provided as against their long hours of duty, not forgetting the women police who form a sizeable part of the police force. Incidentally, this is not the first time policemen are put to difficulties due to the non-availability of basic necessities. When there is a major state function and when a VVIP is to visit the state it seems that the police personnel on duty are subjected to untold misery. In the futute, the police need to be provided with all basic necessities like drinking water, food packets and mobile toilet facilities by the authorities as they have to perform their duties under trying circumstances standing under the hot sun for several hours. After all, these police personnel are human beings and have basic needs.
