The state government is yet to notify the new Mopa airport police station but Goa police have gone ahead with the deployment of personnel at the station without any infrastructure in place. In a farcical move, a government order posting 23 police staffers, including inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables, to the non-existent station was issued. The deployment has come in the wake of the protests against the construction of a link road connecting Mopa to NH 66. Since there is no building in place, the personnel will have to sit in metal container cabins which become ovens in the tropical heat. As of now, cases in the jurisdiction of Mopa shall be registered at Pernem and action taken accordingly. This stop-gap arrangement beggars belief, what was the tearing hurry to post police staff in an area which is largely free of crime and that too without physical facilities in place. Ghost protocol?
