Politicians & govt officials too are frontline workers

Since the pandemic commenced last year we have seen the frontline workers such as the medical faculty, housekeeping staff in hospitals, municipal workers, police, bankers and many others being treated and honoured. In the fitness of things we need to consider the other categories of frontline workers and these are the politicians and government officials (civil services).

When the general public is safe at home, these people plan and execute various safety measures and arrange for essentials and medical supplies. They move around at odd hours trying to reach, pacify and help as many people as possible.

Politicians and government personnel are at high risk for being in close contacts with their colleagues and others who may be harbouring the virus. Several have suffered the viral attack, recovered or even succumbed. Despite all these most of us have a habit of ridiculing and blaming them for all the problems that we face. We should not stress on their errors, omissions and commissions (pun unintended) that could happen during their course of work, after all they too have flaws like any of us.

Let us give credit where it is due and not belittle the efforts of politicians and government officials who work tirelessly so that we can sleep soundly. If possible, let us give them a helping hand or at the least listen to them and stay put at home and follow the restrictions in force. Working in unison could help save us all from the pandemic.
