Hundreds of people led by a political party marched to the Raj Bhavan to protest against three agricultural bills brought in by the Centre. A video of the protest march which went viral on social media showed that social distancing was not observed with the party workers standing shoulder-to-shoulder raising slogans to repeal the laws. The state is witnessing a spike in the number of cases of the coronavirus and several deaths are being reported every. Such a gathering of a large number of people in one place without maintaining social distancing was dangerous. Interestingly, only one MLA was seen during the protest march, though the others also supported the farmers. It is believed that the party has asked senior leaders to maintain social distancing and take care of their health. But what about the well-being of the citizens? During a pandemic, political parties should consider the health of the citizens to be more important than raising social issues. Such gathering of a large number of people without social distancing can spread the virus as the pandemic is in the community transmission stage.
