Undoubtedly, over speeding coupled with rash and negligent driving is the major cause for accidents across Goa. Despite seeing precious lives being lost every single day we continue to breach the traffic rules, endangering our lives and those of others. A typical example is the narrow Panaji- Ribandar causeway where over speeding is frightening with many negligently not exercising caution. If people across Goa strictly comply with all the traffic regulations in letter and spirit by also engaging in defensive driving, we may be able to end the misery of accidents. It is horrifying that parents continue to allow their minor kids to ride two wheelers which needs to be stopped. The traffic police are busy issuing challans especially to two wheelers while acting as fundraisers to replenish by lakhs every day the State coffers which the government is merrily emptying on wasteful expenditure. Road safety is the responsibility of everyone, and our traffic police must do and be seen to do a lot more to enforce the law as a deterrent and to bring to book those that violate the law.
