Siolim MDR-10 is one of the busiest roads in the area, used daily by thousands of tourists and locals. Reckless driving, inadequate traffic monitoring, and frequent road rage incidents following minor accidents have raised serious safety concerns.
The absence of a divider and footpaths, coupled with the carriageway encroaching on the road shoulders, makes walking dangerous, particularly for students and senior citizens.
I urge the PWD Executive Engineer to recognise that Siolim’s senior citizens, many of whom walk without assistance, are being forced to risk their lives due to inadequate pedestrian infrastructure. Despite Supreme Court judgments and claims of development, basic footpaths remain missing.
The appointed consultant should conduct safety audits of all major district roads, ensuring taxpayers’ money is put to effective use.
The authorities must act urgently to make Siolim MDR-10 safe for pedestrians, especially children and senior citizens. Road safety must be a priority, not an afterthought.
