The state of Goa has been grappling with the problem of drunken driving for far too long with no solution in sight. It is next to impossible for the police to keep a tab on drunken driving. The responsibility lies on every individual who goes out for a drink with friends not to get drunk and drive. If a group of friends goes on a drinking binge on weekends, then the driving should be done by one member of the group is sober. The turn of the person who is not supposed to drink could be decided by rotation. Alternatively at bars there should be an option whereby a person who is drunk can opt for a cab to reach home which could be arranged by the bar owner. Obviously the best option would be not to consume alcohol beyond a certain limit if one has to drive. But with alcohol flowing freely at certain wedding receptions one could be tempted to indulge in heavy drinking. It would be desirable for the couple getting married to have cabs on stand-by if any of the guests want to be dropped home.
