Why is govt not keen on marking Opinion Poll Day?

JERRY FERNANDES, Saligao | 19th January, 07:30 pm

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had clearly assured the Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao on the floor of the house somewhere in 2024 of officially celebrating the Opinion Poll Day on a very large scale throughout the State starting from 2025. Unfortunately, though we are in 2026, the government is not seen taking much of a interest in organising official functions on a very large scale or taking out big bike rallies along with it's supporters to mark this historic day, especially in places like Pernem, Bicholim, Mandrem, Pale, Valpoi, Sattari, Ponda, Shiroda, Canacona, Sanguem, Marcaim, etc. Why? Hey, when the government can annually waste huge sums of money in organising a number of official functions, events why can't it organise functions on January 16 to mark the historic Opinion Poll Day in different parts of Goa?  Well, the government is clearly showing how much it really cares for even those who have fought and contributed to retain Goa's unique identity by failing to keep up with its own commitment of celebrating January 16... Opinion Poll Day.
