During a recent 'nakabandi' at Santa Cruz the cops attached to the Old Goa police station stopped a BR registered car. When the driver was asked to show his licence, the officer waved his ID card informing that he is an IAS officer and drove away. A few minutes later he returned, opened the car’s boot, removed some items and threw them on the ground and asked the cops to check the car. The cops refused. The officer picked up the materials and drove away. Later he called a senior cop and complained about the incident. The North Goa SP made enquiries and called the 25-year-old newly-recruited cop who was on 'nakabandi' duty. Reportedly, in the office the SP ordered the cop to do 100 squats but stopped him at 20 and after a warning let him off. The DGP spoke to the SP that his actions were unwarranted and the rule book is to be followed instead of asking the cop to do squats. In all fairness, the officer could have appreciated the cop for doing his duty. This is how the morale of young, dynamic and dutiful govt personnel gets destroyed.
