Recently, it was reported that a hotel in Singapore had unveiled a Covid proof meeting room.
The room is partitioned by airtight glass where meetings between foreign delegations and local people can be had without the former undergoing quarantine yet still protecting the latter.
Singapore has till date just 29 deaths due to Covid. The innovation is to kick-start the economy and the hotel business. This is a good definition of a ‘win-win’ situation and understanding Covid, governance and economics.
Goa was recently declared the 11th best tourist destination in the world! Goa has till date lost over 780 people to Covid. Goa has practically ‘gifted prime land’ and beaches to 5 star hotels and has no requirement for quarantine for people even from Maharashtra, which itself is going back to lockdown.
Are our 5 and 7 star hotels bereft of innovation? Every now and then we ‘see’ them, by way of photo ops, ‘cleaning’ the beaches making use of local students and other gimmicks just for publicity.
Goa getting the 11th best destination tag comes from local resources and absolutely nothing from the industry. My advice to the top hotels is utilise the community funds to at least protect the locals from their follies.
