The alleged illegalities in Goa’s industrial estates were discussed in the Legislative Assembly and the Leader of the Opposition claimed that rules and laws were being flouted by the industrial units. Some were operating without renewed licenses, pollution and most importantly houses built inside for migrant workers. The CM has assured to investigate the issues and act within 15 days against the illegalities. The Industries Minister stated that the government took a lenient view of migrants staying in the Cuncolim industrial estate to avoid social tension in the village.The government would designate utility areas to allow workers to reside within the estates by paying necessary fees and with all required amenities.
But the villagers will be deprived of income by not having tenants and there will be loss to the local businesses. In the event a serious accident or fire occurs in one or more units and families are maimed or lose their belongings, will they be reimbursed? Lastly, there is always a fear that after some years the factory owners may collaborate, shutdown the units and convert the industrial estates into real estates!
