An open letter to Mr Chidambaram

Apropos to the report “PC likens Congress defectors to Judas” (September 6), Chidambaram needs to take note of the following.

First of all, Goans cannot be taken for granted by the political class; many of who have lost credibility, respect and honour by their deeds of commission, omission and treachery.

Secondly, Jesus’ betrayal by Judas is a reminder that betrayal “comes not from an enemy”. How many Judases are still there within the Congress at the State and national level?

Is the criteria of loyalty for a candidate only limited to the party’s success or does it extend beyond to the voter’s interests who has trusted him to serve the common needs and good of the people? Exodus from the party is a betrayal, true, but more sad and painful is the exodus of voter’s trust which is a stab in the back.

Another point to note is a candidate is expected to be loyal to the party, the state and the voter. He or she is also expected to be responsible, reliable, accountable, transparent, humble, service oriented and not self seeking.

A humble and contrite heart, with a fervent desire to change from within, receives God’s pardon. Not presumption!
