The traffic signals at the Ribandar-Chimbel junction on the Panaji-Old Goa highway which were installed earlier this year had not been functioning for the last over three long months.
Suddenly and miraculously the signals started working on Sunday, 5th September, the day President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Goa. We are now informed that the signals were repaired as this route was designated as a backup emergency for the President’s convoy. How fortunate we were.
Ironically the authorities all this while have been telling us that there was a major fault with that traffic signal and it would be a cumbersome repair. It was obviously a big fat lie.
This junction has been very perilous with so many fatal accidents and precious lives lost. Did it need to take the President of India to visit Goa to get this crucial signal functional?
Thank You Mr President, your visit to Goa was not in vain. If nothing else, with these signals now working, it will help prevent many accidents and save some precious lives at this deadly Ribandar intersection.
