Agitating Anganwadi workers of Goa have reportedly refused to give a conditional undertaking and get their jobs back. It is learnt that on 43rd day of their hunger strike the terminated Anganwadi workers have also stopped drinking water.
This is a worrisome situation and needs urgent solution before any untoward incident takes place. Scientifically speaking a human can go without food for about three weeks but would typically only last three to four days without water.
Be that as it may, life is precious and other issues can be sorted out at a later date. The main aim should be for the agitating workers to break the hunger strike at all cost. Both sides need to sort out the issues amicably.
The government needs to look at the situation sympathetically, while the agitating workers could have a rethink about signing the undertaking.
Time is running out and if the hunger strike does not come to a conclusive end, anything can happen. The health of the striking workers could start deteriorating as six of the seven women have reportedly stopped drinking water.
