Are Goans really lazy?

CM Pramod Sawant has reportedly referred to Goans living in Goa as ‘susegad’ or laid-back, criticising shopkeepers for operating limited hours”from 9 am to 1.30 pm, taking a siesta from 1.30 pm to 4 pm, reopening from 4 pm, and closing by 8 pm.

He attributed this trend to the influence of the former Portuguese colonial regime. However, it raises the question of the work culture in government departments in Goa. Why do some government employees reportedly arrive at offices after 11 am, leave by 3 pm, and, in some cases, exhibit unprofessional behaviour such as being under the influence during work hours? Ensuring punctuality, enforcing a full work schedule, addressing misconduct, and expediting public services without corruption would be a step in the right direction. Viva Goa, Viva Goenkaar.
