Don Atiq Ahmed approached the court for protection fearing plots to eliminate him in transit. The court refused relief stating that State will provide him the security needed The circumstance of moving to the hospital at night a high risk criminal was questionable conduct. The manner in which he was gunned down raises more questions than answers. The judicial custody does not augur well in the case. After his gruesome murder under police custody all his actions are magnified and publicised to give him a bad name. The only question that is paramount is how a high profile criminal was gunned down in the presence of unarmed police acting as mute spectators
Surprisingly the shooters surrendered to unarmed police shouting Jai Shri Ram slogans. The findings of judicial commission are awaited with bated breath. Serious apprehensions have been raised about unbiased report. Atiq and his brother in handcuffs were an easy prey and needed justice, irrespective of their inglorious past and need not have met a shocking end.
