Technology meant for man's benefit not for his death

This is with reference to the editorial "Penalise those violating safety rules on beaches - The Goan Everyday April 25, 2023." The incident of four tourists losing their lives while taking selfies from a rocky area on the shore declared unsafe, at Keri beach, was unfortunate. Had they adhered to the announcements and the signages of the “no-selfie zone”, the waves would not have devoured them. When one is bent on committing suicide, there is little one can do. The crux of the matter is, man has got so much obsessed with modern technology that he has stopped thinking altogether. They tend to get carried away and this 'selfie' mania has taken over people lives. The desire to be photographed, to be noticed, to be in the limelight, is frightening. And it is not just on beaches, but anywhere and everywhere. Penalising offenders is one thing, but how far can we go on like this? Do we always need to be policed? Technology should be used for man's benefit not for his downfall. We need to use the power of discernment, there is no option!
