With reference to the news report “Will Churchill retain hold over Benaulim or will Venzy open the account for AAP?” (The Goan Everyday March 3, 2022).
Goa Assembly Elections 2022 will be remembered for many things. Chief among them is the manner in which two distinguished politicians -- without naming them -- bid adieu to their electoral ambitions on the eve of crucial Assembly Elections 2022.
Churchill Alemao should have read the writing on the wall and followed in the footsteps of these two high profile senior colleagues thus paving the way for someone who is young and rating to go. Alas it was not to be so. Churchill stayed stuck to his guns and fought what he called his last Goa assembly elections.
That said, his fierce opponent Capt Venzy Viegas from Aam Aadmi Party was in no mood to make things easier for Churchill whom he challenged at every given opportunity. Capt Venzy put up a solid fight and staked a claim for the throne of Badhshah of Benaulim.
Will people of Benaulim give the young captain a chance or is the wind still blowing in favour of time-tested octogenarian Churchill?
The outcome of Benaulim seat is too close a call. Let us wait for March 10 and till then hold our breath for a massive surprise in store.
