I do not agree with Narayan Murthy advocating 90 hour week schedule which works out to 15 hours a week from 6 days a week which will deprive employees of their family, recreation and social life . There are many employees who are forced to work unlimited hours, often without basic physical exercise. They also deserve time for family, social interaction, entertainment and physical exercise.
During the wars in 1965 and 1971 against Pakistan , the ammunition factory had increased working hours from 48 to 72 hours per week because of the rising demand for ammunition. While workers earned significantly more through increased working hours or overtime , their families suffered significantly. Many returned home during late hours and left early morning, rarely seeing their near and dear ones except on holidays. In some cases children barely recognised their fathers hence a balanced work hour schedule is critical not only for sustenance of the family but also for upbringing of children.
