The past 5 months from November 2020 to March 2021 were the best periods witnessed by people where religious and economic activity took centerstage with positive vibes that the virus was ebbing out amid hopes of returning to the old normal.
While some States have enforced Section 144, night curfews and restrictions to contain the rampaging virus, other States were callously allowing mass gatherings for elections, religious festivals and political rallies.
Even our PM had the temerity to state in one of the election rallies that the rally ground was insufficient to hold the overwhelming crowd and a larger venue was required, notwithstanding breaking all Covid related protocols.
Another case in point was the Kumbh Mela held on 12th and 14th April where 70 lakh devotees took part in the Shahi Snan (holy dip) at Haridwar throwing all COVID appropriate behaviour to the winds.
With all the shortcoming, the country has earned the sobriquet of the epicenter of the coronavirus overtaking the US and Brazil in terms of infections and fatalities due to the sheer negligence of the political class and election commission in enforcing strict controls to combat the menace of the virus.
Back home our CM believes in his in (famous) phrase 'bhivpachi garoz na' has not exercised any controls for Covid negative, RT-PCR certificate at State's borders for persons entering from the infected neighbouring states.
