This is with reference to the report, "Zuari river contaminated by microplastics, reveals study - The Goan Everyday - October 14, 2024." Microplastics, microplastic pollution are words being commonly used in recent times. This news report highlights the presence of microplastics polluting the Zuari river, ultimately entering the food chain leading to serious health issues. However, the public and the authorities don't seem to have yet gauged the dangers of pollution from plastics that are being widely used. It's not so much the use of plastics but the disposal that is very critical. Even in Mumbai, if you look at the catch the fishermen bring onshore, the major portion is plastic. Apparently people are disposing off plastics anywhere and everywhere. In Mumbai, we can see this at Gorai creek and at all the beaches. Proper disposal is the key. The sooner we understand this the better it will be. Is anybody listening?
