In an annual painting exhibition of Fine Arts faculty at Maharaja Sayajirao University, some students had displayed objectionable portraits of Hindu deities which sparked outrage. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have demanded the resignation of the dean in this regard. These paintings show Hindu deities and some national symbols being linked to incidents of rape. Newspaper cutouts were used to make pictures of deities. Most of the paper cutouts that were used contained reports of rape. It is necessary to enact a law that severely punishes those who denigrate Hindu deities, only then such incidents will stop. A blasphemy law is essential to instil fear in the minds of those who denigrate Hindu deities.
