This refers to news report “‘Exremely worrisome’ RSS calls for peace in Manipur” (June 19), Manipur continues to burn despite the Centre’s intervention and the State government’s effort to restore peace and normalcy. Since May 3, the Meitei and Kuki communities have been at loggerheads over the issue of reservation.
The government and the political leadership have lost not only control but also credibility. The recent visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur and infusion of large security personnel there, it was expected that situation would be under control.
However, that did not happen which means that the forces can’t help if political and administrative policies and action are not conducive to peace. It also means that the BJP government in Manipur does not enjoy the trust and confidence of Manipur communities especially the Kuki. Importantly, PM Modi’s silence on the Manipur violence is quite surprising.
