A resident from Bhati village in Sanguem died of drowning when he was thrown off a bridge after a two wheeler accident. The victim riding the scooter reportedly collided with the side walls of the bridge. He sustained injuries in the accident and then tragically drowned in the river. It may be recalled that in July 2022 one of the most heart-wrenching accidents to have ever hit Goa claimed the lives of four members of a family. The incident occurred in the dead of night, when the car skidded off the old Zuari Bridge and plunged into the river. The impact of the crash was so severe that it caused the balustrade to give way, sending the car plunging into river. In order to prevent such accidents and instances of suicide, the height of the sidewalls of the bridges must be increased. High walls will also dissuade people from sitting on these walls. The sidewalls need to be strengthened so that they do not give way in case of a collision. It may also be advisable to have side nettings besides the sidewall.
